No. 13: Why I like this business

For M. Carson Black, who likes his Arizona "office" view:

My normal desk faces a wall. I take my PC and my dog Bailey outside when I can't stand it anymore. Like I said, I am a lucky dog. So is my dog, who I found on the "remainder" pile at the Humane Society.

To quote Jerry Rubin, Buy My Books Or I Shoot This Dog.

Just kidding. My husband would shoot ME.

Location, location, location! I do like that view. You have a much bigger vista than I do--all I have is a pool and some bougainvillea, and four fat cats.

I've tried writing outside. Too many distractions. I prefer a quiet indoor space where I can get lost in my head (haven't been carted away yet). Your patio would certainly be a great place to hang at the end of the day though, Kris.

Hey, where's Kelly? Camera shy? Or did you make her stay at the desk against the wall to finish chapter 35? Haha. Poor Kelly.

But seriously, being able to work from home is one of the big attractions for me as a I strive to be part of the witing business. I keep telling my son that my goal is to never have to leave the house. I can shop online, have groceries delivered etc. He thinks I'm crazy ("You mean never go to the mall, Dad?). But I have room in my back yard for a pool and a tennis court (there goes that first big advance check). I can invite friends over occasionally, and that's all I need.

Oh well. Enough fantasy. Back to work on the book...

Jude,
Yeah, Kelly was inside staring at the wall. I've never tried writing outside until this week. And strangly enough, I found it stimulating. Maybe it is just the change of scenery, but I got some good work done on the balcony this week.

And yes, Mark, you can visit! You can sleep out on the balcony...

Kristy, I hope in some small way I inspired you to go outside.

Hi Sand Storm,

So welcome to the blog! And thanks for the compliment. If I ever get on Oprah, I will dance on the sofa in your memory.

Your dog looks very much like mine who's a Jack Russell/Lakeland Terrier cross. I write with my laptop balanced on my knees while sat on the bed. Oh for a vista to enjoy :) ~Sharon
